Boomphones are back! The makers of headphones that also turn into speakers are bringing you a refined upgrade, called Boomphones RE-UP.

Boomphones RE-UP are Headphones and Speakers in One

The new and improved Boomphones RE-UP is a musical unit that takes your audio from personal to party in a smooth looking chassis. In colorways of white, gray, or gold, RE-UP seems to be the ultimate commuter headset.

RE-UP can be used in three different ways. As a Bluetooth-enabled headset, RE-UP is able to offer a hands-free listening experience for up to 10 hours. If the battery is low, Boomphones provides a wired free option. When it comes to sound, the headphones (internal speakers) reach a frequency response range of 20 to 20,000 Hertz while the external speakers reach a frequency response range of 150 to 20,000 Hertz.

With the simple tap of a button, each ear cup is turned into an external speaker, allowing you to share your music with friends. But I don’t advise doing this on the train. New York City commuters are not about it. Speaking of commuting, this feature allows skateboarders, rollerbladders, and cyclists a safe means to enjoy their music while still remaining in tune with their environment. When the headphones aren’t being worn around the neck, they are able to collapse into a free-standing stereo. When the ear cups aren’t enough, the headphones can be placed in the Active Speaker Case to magnify the volume.

This works by collapsing the headphones and aligning the ear cups with the speakers in the case. As Boomphones explains, combining the two external headphone speakers with two additional speakers allows the listener to receive an “even more powerful listening experience, rivaling any Bluetooth speaker on the market.” To boot, the case can be used to charge your headphones or cell.

Boomphones RE-UP can be purchased via Kickstarter for the Early Bird RE-UP price of $150 before hitting the market at a price of $350. Boomphones RE-UP will ship to backers in August 2017.
