Demoing Melomind with CEO Yohan Attal

CEO of myBrain Technologies, Yohan Attal, stopped by our headquarters to give us a demo of Melomind and wow do the stress-relieving headphones work. Once the headset with detachable sensors is on your head, the app will make sure each sensor is properly touching your scalp to start your session. The zen experience bergins with a soothing voice telling you to relax followed by a moment of silence before various ambient noises, like soft footsteps, running water, and a sitar begin to calm your nerves.

That introductory moment of silence is for the headphones to calibrate your brain’s state of relaxation at the beginning. The accompanying app keeps track of your stress levels during the journey. Upon completion your smart device details the number of seconds you were calm and the goal that was set for that training session. There is also a graph with an EEG reading detailing the moments of increased stress. With repetitive use the user can unlock more in-depth readings about their sessions.

The Melomind experience is unique to each user as the music provided by the headphones change based on the user’s stress levels and their brain’s reaction to the various ambient noises. My co-worker heard running water and doors closing while I heard the ocean, a rain forest, and exotic instruments.

I can definitely see myself using Melomind on the regular. The headphones are meant for extended use, hence the ability to unlock more features with regular use. To boot, Melomind can also be used as Bluetooth wireless headset to play the music on your smart device – just pop off the prongs.

But being an audiophile, there is another question that must be answered. How does Melomind sound, especially when being used to play regular music? Pretty good! I played a bit of hip-hop and some synth-heavy tunes through the calming cans and heard detail. The quality was better than I was expecting. Seeing as we demoed the prototype, Attal promises better quality on the distributed version. Yippee!
