These semi-open studio headphones have been rebooted and refined by AKG and Massdrop to provide the benefits of both a closed and open-back headphone for producers, audio engineers, musicians, etc. As a hybrid, the Massdrop AKG M220 cans are said to deliver an impressive, open soundstage while providing the right amount of sound isolation. As Massdrop writes, “Accurate lows, smooth mids, and detailed highs make these cans a fatigue-less listen. If you’ve ever wanted to listen to music exactly as the artist intended, this is the headphone the sound engineer probably used to master the track.” That being said, the headphones reach a frequency response between 15 to 25,000 Hertz at an impedance of 55 ohms and reach a sound output level of 91 dB.

Since these headphones are intended for studio production, you can guess they are fitted for extended wear. Equipped with smooth, faux leather earcups and a floating headband, the headphones sound ideal for long listening sessions. A 3-pin XLR cable and a quarter inch adapter are also  included to ensure the M220s are compatible with various interfaces.

The Massdrop AKG M220 headphones collab will run exclusively for 8 days on Massdrop.com. Members will have the opportunity to purchase the semi-open cans for $49.99 before they retail at a MSRP of $159. Orders placed now are estimated to ship December 19.
