Soon you may begin to see little black-looking dongles hanging out of people’s ears. You may think they’re black Apple AirPods and in thinking so, you’d be somewhat correct. These truly wireless earbuds are Huawei Freebuds.
Huawei Freebuds: AirPods Knock-Offs with Twice the Battery, But More Expensive
Also available in white, Huawei Freebuds are nearly identical to those of Apple AirPods with a long antenna and the battery extending from the earphone allowing for better connectivity and overall sound quality – no dropping out here. While I have yet to try these out, judging by the photos it looks like they’ve made good on the design by adding an actual ear tip to the earphone head and have somehow managed to double the run time achieved from a single charge.
The units also include a potable charging case is said to provide a few more additional hours of play time. 9to5Mac attended where Huawei was on display. However, 9to5Mac reports the company would not allow tech reporters to listen to the buds leading 9to5Mac to believe the audio quality is probably where these buds fall short.
What seems to be the most interesting aspect of these truly wireless buds is the fact that they cost more than AirPods. I’d assume in order to compete they’d want to retail at equal or lesser value. But, maybe a higher price will equal a better price in the minds of some consumers.
Anyway, Huawei Freebuds will cost €159 which is around $196 USD.
