Apple Chip to Improve Battery Life

“Truly” wireless earbud are plagued by one major problem – battery life. But our favorite Cupertino tech giant seems to have an answer, the Apple Chip.

Apple Chip to Improve Battery Life

This bite-sized piece of tech is expected to revolutionize (and I mean this loosely) battery life for wireless devices, particularly for buds that aren’t tethered to one another by a neck-band. And while the design seems to be in favor of both form and function, a cable-free, lightweight, ultra portable frame means less room for a fully supportive battery pack. And let’s not get into the poor connectivity issues.

The Apple Chip (as I am calling it) is said to greatly improve the life span of our little music-playing friends. According to Forbes, who cites “a source with knowledge of the project,” the chip is looking at a “possible… launch in September with the first iPhone without a headphone jack (likely called iPhone 7).”

The device was supposed to be released in 2015, but Bluetooth performance issues put a halt on the propduction. “The way it works at Apple is if it doesn’t work 100 percent, it gets cut,” the source said.

The Bluetooth-chip comes from technology developed by Passif Semiconductor, a startup Apple purchased in 2013.

Previously, Apple has used third-party Bluetooth chips in it’s wireless devices. At this time, it is unknown if Apple will use their own chip or a third-party in their own rumored version of wireless buds called “AirPods.” But, if they did it would be in line with the California-based company’s push to keep everything “in-house” even if that means acquisitions.

Regardless, this Apple Chip could be the answer for many other wireless brands like Bragi Dash, Samsung Gear IconX, Erato, and so many other wireless prototypes out there. Til then, we will just have to wait and see.
