Apple Music & The Warehouse Project Launch Immersive Spatial Audio DJ Sets

Apple Music is committed to expanding its spatial audio library in any way it can. There are a ton of curated spatial audio playlists on the platform, but their latest collaboration expands their selection even further. Apple has announced that they are teaming up with Manchester’s “The Warehouse Project” to release DJ sets in spatial audio.

Established in 2006, some see The Warehouse Project as a rite of passage for electronic music fans. Starting from underground car parks, all the way to Depot Field, The Warehouse Project has taken its hold over the Manchester club scene. These new spatial audio DJ sets are part of its upcoming WHP24 series and will include artists like Disclosure, OVERMONO, and Black Coffee. Boiler Room will also have a spatial audio playlist when they come to Depot Field this October.

As of right now, Apple Music has a limited amount of spatial audio DJ sets available. If you want a preview of what these sets will sound like in spatial audio, you can listen to mixes from Skream, Izzy Bossy, and Yung Singh that are available on Apple Music Now.

What This Means For The Future Of Spatial Audio Content

While electronic music can be very immersive, it’s also very direct. Soundstage is probably not the factor you’re most enticed by unless you’re listening to specific artists who prioritize it. However, spatial audio properties go further than just expanding the soundstage. The difference here is not about how wide the sound is, but whether or not you feel like you’re on the dancefloor. If you watch the Bolier Room sets on YouTube, you might get an enhanced audio experience by hearing the music bounce around the space more directionally. Looking at how these playlists are going to continue, you might start seeing live spatial audio content pop up for a variety of live events.
