Priced at an impressive $3000, the closed-back Stellia competes with other high-end closed back headphones. But the Stellia doesn’t just stack up against the Audio Technica L5000, the Sennheiser HD 820, and the Final Audio Sonorous VIII. It also provides Focal fans with a counterpoint to the open-back Utopia.
Like the Utopia, the Stellia utilizes Focal’s signature Beryllium drivers and characteristic efficiency with a 35-ohm impedance. This frameless 100% copper voice coil seeks to offer class-leading dynamics and neutrality. Furthermore, this headphone boasts a frequency range of 5-40,000 Hz. Focal claims this headphone will deliver “perfect sound, whether bass articulation or the highest frequency details.”
The copper-and-cognac colored headphones boast real leather and premium components – as well as the love-it-or-hate it aesthetics audio freaks have come to associate with the iconic French brand.
With integrated vents extending the frequency response, Focal’s engineers claim to achieve a pure sound. Assisting this feat is the inclusion of EVA foam backing the driver, as well as acoustic diffusers to break up standing waves.
