Free iPhone Storage, Thanks Google Photos

Google Photos iPhone Meme

Is this you? It sure as hell is me! We Apple users are practically unanimous in our woes over iOS storage. It feels like there is never enough, but Google Photos has the answer.

Free iPhone Storage, Thanks Google Photos

Unless your purchased a plan for 128GB – which I never did because I never really saw the need for such a large amount of memory – you get the “Storage Full” notification every five seconds, and it’s exhausting. We now live in the age of apps on apps on apps so that means more storage, more storage, more storage. That being said, everyone’s favorite search engine has made storage easier than ever and it’s more affordable than the iCloud.

Google Photos is free, yippee. The app, which is now available through the App Store, provides unlimited cloud storage for photos and videos to its users. If your photos exceed 16 megapixels and your videos past 1080p they’ll be compressed unless you opt to upgrade to premium Google Drive space and store your photos and videos as “Originals” with all your beloved pixels in tact. Maybe some users won’t mind, but I’m thinking bloggers, photographers, people with a business surrounding high quality photographs… they’ll be the ones having to leverage if this is a viable option. Google will give you 15GB for free, as opposed to Apple’s 50GB for $0.99. There’s also the 1TB per month offered by Google for $10 while this price gets you only 500GB from Apple.

Once all the goods are synced the real fun begins with users able to delete photos from their phone, freeing up more space for music and other apps while Google Photos also automatically organizes photos and videos by people, places, and things and gives you the ability to create animations.

That doesn’t mean Google Photos doesn’t have a few drawbacks. There’s no desktop counterpart and this could be a deal-breaker for some. Also, as previously mentioned, your photos and videos will be compressed. But, if all that means nada to you go on and relish in the splendor of more iOS storage.
