Early models of the highly coveted Jaybird Freedom wireless in-ear headphones could have their sound switched between the earbuds.
Your Jaybird Freedom Earbuds Could Be Reversed
You read that correctly. If you purchased an early pair, your headphones aren’t playing audio in the correct ear. As pointed out by CNET, a Twitter user contacted tech reviewer David Carnoy about the issue. The user wrote “Right is left & left is right.”
Carnoy said he had not noticed the issue until it was brought to his attention. The Twitter user, who goes by Joe, noticed that a car drove from left to right on the screen and he heard the sound shoot right to left in his headphones. He then confirmed his headphone speakers were switched using a headphones test on YouTube. The video is linked here.
Upon discovering the same problem existed with his earbuds, Carnoy wrote Jaybirds who replied:
We are aware that an early May shipment of Jaybird Freedom headphones shipped with a software version that had the left and right channels switched. All factory shipments since that time have the corrected software version and most of our customers will not experience this issue. However, anyone with incorrect left and right channels will be able to easily correct this issue via the MySound app in an upcoming app update scheduled to be released later this month.
At least there is a solution on the way. For those of you with Jaybird Freedom, I suggest trying the headphones test above to know if your pair is part of the defective batch.
