JBL JR300BT Kids Wireless On-Ear Headphones Review

Every kid would love a pair of wireless headphones. But how do you stop them from blowing out their ears?  JBL has introduced a relatively inexpensive pair of on-ear wireless headphones that keep the volume at safe levels. Here’s a look at the technology.

FIT

The first thing I noticed about these JBL headphones is that they are incredibly light. At a 113 grams, you can hardly feel them on your head. Compared to adult headphones, the ear cushions are super soft. And the middle of the headband features a gentle padding. They are a really comfortable fit all around.

DESIGN and CAPABILITIES

The JR300BT comes in three colors; green, pink and blue. Each pair is also tri-colored, which makes them fun, even for a big kid like myself. The headphones come with a bunch of stickers, so your child can personalize them until they are completely covered.  They are fold-able and very flexible, but don’t come with a case, which would have been a nice accessory, considering how much kids move around. These JBL’s have a 12 hour battery life and can produce 1 hour of playing time after 10 minutes of charging. The wireless connection works up to 15 meters away and the controls are extremely easy. There are two buttons. One is for pairing with Bluetooth. The other button plays and pauses with one touch. If you press it for a little longer, the headphones switch on and off. That’s about it. As long as your kids know how to press a button, they will have no problem operating these headphones.

SOUND

The most important aspect of the JR300BT is that JBL has limited the volume below 85dB. So, rest assured that little ears are protected. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound on these kiddy cans. Though it’s hard to judge the sound elements of a headphone with this kind of volume limit, they definitely have that classic bassy JBL feel to them. So, hip hop and pop sound really great. I also added The Beatles to the play list, and they sounded good too; vocals and guitars have a nice presence. The treble is fine and not too bright, so you don’t have to worry about any disturbing sibilance.

I can definitely say that the JR300BT are a fun and safe wireless headphone choice for any kid under the age of ten. After that, they may opt for something cooler and more ear-popping. But for a first pair, the JR300BT wireless are perfect.
