LeEco released a few handsets without a 3.5 mm jack, rather a USB Type C port. They’ve since released earbuds, LeEco USB Type C headphones.
LeEco USB Type C Headphones with CDLA
After LeEco announced three new phones (Le 2, Le 2 Pro, and Le Max 2) all eyes were on the Chinese company regarding what more of their products could lose the 3.5 mm jack amidst rumors of Apple doing the same.
LeEco has since created Continual Lossless Digital Audio (CDLA) headphones with a USB Type C connector. In speaking with The Verge, LeEco president of R&D, Liang Jun, advised their massive switch over to the Type C connector was solely based on the desire to provide better audio.
“We chose to discontinue the 3.5 mm audio jack in our second-gen phones to create a better quality audio experience for everyone to enjoy, said Jun. “With the 3.5 mm audio jack, the stereo sound was compromised due to poor sound channel separation and the sound quality was compromised due to a mismatch between phone and headphones. By replacing the 3.5 mm jack with a Type C port, it introduces a new approach to mobile audio transcoding and transmission and delivers what we believe is a much better overall audio experience for consumers,” he added.
LeEco’s headphones are built with their CDLA technology. This ensures no audio is lost from your device to your ear. Basically, it works like a DAC in your headphones. With a USB based audio codec chip, enhanced audio quality is produced with a digital-to-analog converter. Pretty Cool!
The headphones are all around white. They feature a hard plastic looking earbud, not the foam or silicon type. The buds are shaped with an opening at the end for the speaker to point sound directly into the wearer’s ear canal. They reach a frequency range between 15 – 25,000 Hertz.
That being said, I’m still wondering what Apple’s lightning jack earbuds will look like.
