Meet QuietOn, Super Silent Earbuds

On the daily, we experience a cornucopia of noises – especially if you live in the city. To be quite honest, I often feel it would be nice to put the entire city on mute… for just a moment. Well, QuietOn appears to have the answer. The tiny buds use a combination of active noise cancellation and passive noise reduction to one-up your standard earplugs.

Using passive attenuation to block out noise at higher frequency levels, traditional plugs are great at quieting voices. However, these earplugs do not block out sounds in the lower register – like snoring and airplane noises. To reach optimal noise reduction, QuietOn acts as a traditional earplug while using built in microphones and speakers to sample surrounding noise and creating a phase shift sound to cancel the noise out.

Voila! Silence.

The creators stand by their product, even encouraging the use of QuietOn while sleeping. The earplugs are designed to sit in the ear canal while the top of the device is rotated until it fits nice and snug in the concha-cavum portion of the ear. The overall design is wireless, so no need to worry about cables getting in the way. That being said, the buds do not support Bluetooth technology or music playback.

That must be why after a single charge from the charging carry case, QuietOn can be powered for up to 50 hours. The buds are shipped with the case in addition to two sets of different size ear tips.

The QuietOn Team has already surpassed their crowdfunding goal by 818 percent on March 13 with a total of $590,975. But, if you’re interested in putting the world on mute you can still snag a pair on IndieGoGo. Currently, the buds are listed at the early-bird price of $130 before hitting the market at $174. Orders are said to ship in June.
