Look & Feel
The MorningBlues VWS X1 is definitely one of the most interesting concepts for a Bluetooth headphone that I’ve had the opportunity to review. From the outside, the X1 is a stylish set of headphones without its main feature. It only comes in one color, but the glossy silver with a blueish tint makes them stand out as a fashionable statement piece. Then there’s its main draw, the touchscreen panels. These square panels require a charge, and they can be magnetically attached to the side of each earcup. They can be fully customizable, being able to display any image as long as you upload it through the app. I personally liked the option that shows off what artist and track you’re listening to with a CD motion graphic.
This is an interesting novelty that makes your headphones as personal as ever, like they’re part of your outfit. If your phone offers numerous personalization options, why can’t your headphones? It’s a concept I’m open to, and in practice, it’s pretty cool. If the headphones were uncomfortable, I would find this design unnecessary, but thankfully, the padding is very soft. The headphones are light and never apply too much pressure on your head.
Design & Functionality
It’s not all about style with the MorningBlues VWS X1. With their 40mm Dymainc drivers powered by Jamo, the sound promises serious business. The sound gets loud, but not to the point where you get a ton of headroom. Volume is adjustable, but I was reaching the upper limit most of the time. Noise canceling helps a lot, though, and the level of isolation you get with the X1 is great. This is some of the best ANC I’ve heard recently, not quite rivaling Sony and Bose, but holding its own, muting most environmental noise. The X1 also has ambient awareness, which you can cycle through on the headphone’s side panel or through the app. The companion app also offers an EQ, as well as allows you to customize the touchscreen panel features.
Bluetooth
The VWS X1 supports Bluetooth version 5.4 for the latest in high bandwidth and maximum range. It’s powered by a Qualcomm QCC5181 chipset supporting multiple CODECs like aptX Classic and HD. You also get a multipoint connection that allows you to pair the X1 with two devices at once.
Battery Life
When you spend this much, you want a long battery life, and the MorningBlues X1 delivers that. You get 60 hours from one complete charge, allowing for multiple days of use before needing to put them back on the wire.
Soundstage
Being that this is a sound powered by Jamo, I was expecting something out of the ordinary. For most of my listening, the VWS X1 was able to give me that, with a comprehensible soundstage that has good separation for Bluetooth. There’s left and right channel identity, with not much information being squeezed into the middle. Not everything sounds precise, but the imaging is surprisingly pointed for what they are. Each layer is very direct and results in a basic understanding of frequency stacking and organization. Everything is presented linearly, but there’s enough room here for the soundstage to feel engulfing and immersive.
Low End
With or without EQ, the VWS X1 delivers a capable bass that hits hard without dominating the sound signature. It has a surprisingly tight resposne that allows the bass to feel direct while straying away from muddy territory. This makes the bass clear and full of energy, exhibiting thumpy grooves and satisfying punch. You have an EQ in the app to add even more power to the lows, but I find them enjoyable in their standard tuning.
Mids
While the VWS X1 opts for a V-shaped profile, the midrange doesn’t suffer too much from being slightly underpowered. Of course, there’s EQ to help out the drive of the mids, but its default tuning sounds the most natural. The low-mids have a full warmth to them, but the upper-highs can sound a tad thin, making certain vocal performances appear small and narrow. Otherwise, the mids display good room and strike to notes. Instruments have a realism to them rather than flashy textures that only highlight smoothness. Instead, the tone is clean with a real definition to it.
Highs
The highs are relaxed but have a good level of clarity to them. You don’t have to worry about strong brightness or harsh tones, but the highs still have presence in the mix. There’s a clear tick to certain instruments as they provide a light shimmer that is super delicate. You can add a makeshift high-shelf that enhances the crispness of these frequencies, but like the mids, the standard tuning has the most natural quality to it.
Summary
The MorningBlues VWS X1 successfully merges fashion and functionality in a way few headphones attempt. Its customizable dynamic screens make it one of the most unique designs available, while the Jamo-powered drivers deliver a balanced sound signature with punchy bass, clean mids, and smooth highs. Add in strong ANC, multipoint Bluetooth, and an impressive 60-hour battery life, and you have a headphone that competes with some of the biggest names in the industry. While not without minor limitations, the VWS X1 stands out as a forward-thinking option for anyone who values personalization as much as performance. For listeners seeking a mix of innovation, comfort, and high-quality audio, the MorningBlues VWS X1 is an excellent choice.
