New Release Audeze LCD2C Classic Headphone

“Allow me to re-introduce myself,” sings the Audeze LCD2C Classic… in a Jay-Z voice…in my head. The new open-back headphone from Audeze is a new take on one of their classics. Meet Audeze LCD2C Classic.

Initially released in 2009, the LCD-2 was a popular pair of cans among audiophiles. It’s described by reviewers, around that time as having “a richness of tone that very few headphones or speakers reproduce, without sounding ‘lush’. There is no hint of sibilance and will bring even the toughest logger to his knees.” Those are the words of Donald Basel in 2010.

In 2011, TONEaudio’s Jeff Dorgay has this to say about the LCD-2: “Everyone who took the Audeze LCD-2 phones for a test drive arrived at the same conclusion – they are the most enjoyable headphones I’ve ever experienced.”

The LCD-2 rendition is said to deliver a slightly darker sound signature than that of the original LCD-2 driver thanks to its large, ultra thin-film diaphragms and double-sided magnetic structure.

In terms of aesthetics, the LCD2C Classic will also feature the same, premium build. The new LCD2C headphone will consist of a lightweight suspension headband comprised of microfiber, magnesium rings, remodeled audio jacks, and premium leather for style and durability.

No exact word on the price of the new headphone, but I’m assuming southwards of $1000 – maybe priced somewhere in the $600-$800 range. The headphone will ship along with a 2.5m 1/4in to dual 4-pin mini-XLR cable and a 3.5mm to 1/4in stereo adapter.

The Audeze LCD2C Classic Headphone will officially release November 10, 2017. Local audiophile headphone retailer, Audio46, expects to have the headphone in December.
