It’s like the Jaybird‘s X2 are making a comeback in a slimmer, more polished frame as Jaybird Freedom Headphones.
New Release: Jaybird Freedom Headphones
The Jaybird’s X2 are known for their stellar sound as wireless earbuds. However, a vice for many was the bulky build as the earbuds poke out of your ears, making it difficult to be worn with any sort of head wear. Freedom headphones are a bit more narrow – about 20 percent thinner according to The Verge – as they were fashioned as a more inconspicuous answer to the X2’s while going for a more refined look. The Freedom wireless earbuds actually curve into the ear to remain pretty flat against the head. This model can still be worn with an ergonomic ear tip for a secure fit.
The earbuds are able to loop over the ear or under the ear and is most comfortably worn hanging behind the head.
The cable features an in-line mic and controller that has the ability to charge the phone using a portable charging port. It simply snaps onto the back to power the unit. A singe charge is said to keep the buds running for four hours. However, Wired has already taken the Freedoms for a spin, saying – “Jaybird quotes four hours of use per charge, but in real life it’s more than six.” Six and a half hours to be exact. The portable charger is recharged using a microUSB.
Sound wise, the earphones are said to deliver a rich and natural tone – likened to that of the X2’s. The Freedoms are also made  to be used with Jaybird’s equalizer app MySound. The app allows users to customize their music to their favorite settings as well as try out saved preferences from sponsored athletes. MySound is a free app that operates on both iOS and Android devices.
The Jaybird Freedom Wireless headphones cost $199.95 and will come with three ergonomic ear fins, three sets of silicone ear tips, and three sets of Comply ear tips. The new sport buds are available in Carbon Black, White Gold, Ocean Blue, and Blaze Red.
