Sennheiser Momentum 5 Review: Sennheiser’s Best Wireless Headphone Yet?

Sennheiser’s Momentum series has been a reliable name in the premium wireless headphone space, offering a balance of everyday convenience and strong audio performance. With the Momentum 5 Wireless, Sennheiser continues to build on that reputation with a headphone made for listeners who want comfort, modern features, and a sound that feels a step above the usual consumer Bluetooth options.

At this point, the noise-canceling headphone market is packed with strong choices, so a new Momentum model has to do more than just carry the Sennheiser name. Let’s take a closer look at the Momentum 5’s design, features, battery life, and sound to see how it stacks up.

Look & Feel

The Momentum 4 has a great design for a consumer Bluetooth headphone, so the Momentum 5 doesn’t change that much about it. There are some minor differences though. For instance, the black version looks like it has a nicer sheen, similar to the graphite variation of the Momentum 4. This glow makes the Momentum 5 look really pop. Add on the new medallion-style logo plate on the headband, and the Momentum has never looked closer to luxury. In terms of comfort, the Momentum 5 is pretty much the same as the Momentum 4. Their ear cups and cushions feel the same, and I had no issue wearing the Momentum 5 for the number of hours that I used them for.

Design & Functionality

Inside of the Momentum 5 is a 42mm dynamic transducer that has a solid amount of power, but the most comfortable, efficient volume level leaves only a small amount of headroom. Thankfully, strong noise cancellation helps combat this, offering a limited amount of distractions that get between you and your music.

The Smart Control Plus app allows you to customize how strong the ANC is, which includes full transparent sound control. You get a slider that, when tweaked all the way to 100% ANC, reveals how strong Sennheiser’s noise-canceling technology has gotten. A simple anti-wind switch is also there to give you a baseline, easy solution for outside noise. The app sections these features very clearly, and the experience is super smooth and customizable. Touch controls are also customizable, and in terms of responsiveness, the Momentum 5 is the best yet. Sliding your finger up and down for volume control feels natural, and the action is registered with precision. The Momentum 5 also adds a wear sensor that is also just as responsive as the touch gestures for playing and pausing.

Bluetooth

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless features Bluetooth 5.4 for a stable, modern wireless connection with support for high-quality codecs including SBC, AAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and aptX Lossless. It also supports Snapdragon Sound, helping deliver improved wireless audio performance with compatible devices. The pairing process is pretty seamless, connecting quickly both to your device and the Smart Control Plus app.

Battery Life

You might see the Momentum 5’s 57-hour battery life and be confused. Why does the new version of the Sennheiser Momentum give you a few hours less than past versions? The reason actually justifies this, as the Momentum 5’s battery life is 57 hours no matter if you’re using ANC or not. With most Bluetooth headphones, charge varies based on features being used, and ANC is a big culprit in what’s draining your battery. With the Momentum 5, you get 57 hours of playtime flat, which is a first for a mainline consumer headphone.

Soundstage

Sennheiser’s Momentum series has always had a wider, more natural soundstage compared to its consumer-grade competition, like the Sony 1000x series, Bose, and Apple AirPods Max headphones. The Momentum keeps that tradition, with accurate spatial imaging and instrumental clarity through separation. Everything feels like it lands in the right place, which is no sweat for a pair of Sennheiser headphones, Bluetooth or not.

The Momentum 5 is pretty effortless with its channel separation and positional identity, adhering to a clear stereo environment that feels right. It’s an engulfing presentation that leans slightly non-linear, but still anchored for concise and articulate layering. If you turn on Immersive Audio in the Smart Control app, the effect isn’t going to detract too much from the natural properties of the soundstage. Using Dolby Atmos with the Momentum 5 pushes the sound out a bit more, adding more headspace for increased height and dimension. However, it reduces impact, and the soundstage becomes a bit foggier as a result. I like this feature for more ambient tracks, but if you like hearing notes from physical instruments, stick to the default stereo mode.

Low End

The Momentum series headphones have never lacked bass impact, and the Momentum 5 is no different. Is it better than the Momentum 4? I’d say so, but now the Momentum headphones have the HDB 630 to compete with. There will be a more in-depth comparison soon, but for now I can say that the Momentum 5’s bass is still immensely satisfying. It works for both bass heads and those who just like to hear clean low-frequency information. The tone is thick without featuring any bloat or overly boomy textures.

Everything pools in the sub-bass, which is very defined on the Momentum 5, adding a climactic rumble to the sound signature that is highly engrossing. It’s a rich bloom that expands even more with EQ, or just by simply activating bass boost in the app. This adds even more texture and body to the sub-bass, all while maintaining a balanced and impactful punch that is consistent with the quality and detail of the Momentum 5’s bass timbre.

Mids

While it’s apparent this is still a Bluetooth headphone when assessing the mids, the frequencies still contain tonal realism and even some clear detail that helps elevate the Momentum 5’s sound. There is a surprising amount of transparency to certain sections of the midrange. Orchestral strings feel physically present, and their tone is clearly defined in the mix. Complex arrangements still feature some haziness, but certain artifacts still cut through effectively for a controlled resposne. Most instruments have smoothed-over transients, so notes don’t really have a strike to them, but they maintain clarity through roominess. Smaller collections of sounds help the Momentum 5 appear more articulate, with more defined plucks, hits, and vocal clarity.

Highs

The highs are a lot like the mids in the sense that they sound clear and defined while still featuring limited organization, except the treble finds a way to hit harder. Bells and cymbals have a more dominant strike to them, and they ring out smoothly without causing any sense of harshness. It keeps with the realism of the Momentum 5’s sound profile, but the highs have more bite to them in a way that sounds natural and resolving. The treble is properly elevated, and the roll-off isn’t too steep to have tails noticeably muted.

Summary

The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless feels like a confident step forward for the series. It keeps the comfort, premium design, and musical sound that made past Momentum headphones stand out, while improving key areas like ANC, app control, touch response, and wireless performance.

Its sound is still the main reason to consider it. The bass is full and clean, the mids have good presence, and the highs add clarity without becoming harsh. Combined with its spacious presentation and long, consistent battery life, the Momentum 5 is an easy recommendation for anyone who wants a premium Bluetooth headphone with strong everyday features and a more refined sound than many mainstream alternatives.
