Vinyl is back, but just a bit more space age. Meet the Audio Deva Atmo Sfera floating turntable.
Atmo Sfera Floating Turntable by Audio Deva
For that space age hipster in your life, I give you a platterless turntable. I repeat, this space-saving record player doesn’t use a platter to create a smoother listening experience. In traditional record players, energy is pushed back against the vinyl which in turn causes distortion in the audio. To combat this issue, most manufacturers fashion turntables with heavier platters, heavier turntable plinths and so on. However, the Italian audio company used physics to create an overall lighter and better sounding system.
“To achieve this goal we use a light platter, a very small, low-torque motor and leave the record freely floating (almost…) into air,” writes Audio Deva on their Kickstarter campaign.
The absence of the platter means a freely spinning record reproducing fluid, smooth audio.
Moreover, Atmo Sfera doesn’t call for the use of additional pre-amps or amplifiers. Nope, none of that! It is already integrated into the system.
The base of the specially designed system is about 12″ x 11″ and stands about 4″ high. The overall weight is about 6.5 lbs and is a belt-driven, two speed turntable. The turntable base is available in an orange, red, or black finish and features Audio Deva’s logo engraved into it.
Those interested in this free-floating turntable can expect to spend a hefty penny. The Atmo Sfera floating turntable is being sold for about $1009.79 USD (895 Euro) with free shipping via Kickstarter.
This crowdfunding campaign serves to provide Audio Deva with the equipment and tools for the assembly line of the turntables and other preliminary costs of production.
Orders will include a one year warranty, ATMO SFERA Platterless Turntable, Carbon fiber tonearm with pre-installed AT95E Audio-Technica cartridge, RCA cables, AC cable w/ international plug adapters, and Motor control box universal AC supply (110/240V).
Atmo Sfera floating turntable will ship worldwide in September.
