Sound Particles Unveils GrainDust: A New Era of Creative Granular Synthesis

Sound Particles, the award-winning audio technology company trusted by major film studios and top music producers, has officially launched GrainDust, a powerful new granular synthesizer designed to help musicians and sound designers craft organic, evolving sounds with unprecedented control.

With GrainDust, every grain of sound becomes a canvas for creativity. The plugin transforms basic samples into rich textures, melodic evolutions, and immersive soundscapes, giving artists the tools to create sounds that are alive, personal, and completely unique.

Granular Power with Expressive Control

Built on the same 3D audio engine that powers Sound Particles’ acclaimed SkyDust 3D, GrainDust features four fully independent granular layers, each capable of running its own samples and parameters. Musicians can import their own sounds or explore over 1,200 curated samples included for instant inspiration.

Each layer can be sculpted in detail with grain rate, density, size, and detune controls, while Pitchless Grains and advanced Sample Range Selection allow precise shaping of sound. Users can even define how grains are formed using envelope types such as Hann, Triangle, Tukey, and Saw for endless tonal possibilities.

Evolving Soundscapes and Immersive 3D Movement

Where GrainDust truly stands out is in its built-in motion and spatial capabilities. Artists can animate sound in real time using movement modifiers, EGs, and MPE touch control, allowing for deeply expressive and dynamic performances.

An arpeggiator and 128-step polyphonic sequencer make it easy to generate rhythmic and melodic motion, while support for spatial audio formats up to 7.1.4, Binaural, and Ambisonics makes it a powerful tool for immersive music and sound design.

Users can visualize their grains in 3D space using an intuitive 3D matrix view, connecting modulation sources to nearly any parameter for complete creative control.

Designed for Organic Expression

Rounding out its extensive feature set, GrainDust includes four FX slots, eight additional EGs and LFOs, and full modulation mapping for pitch, velocity, and movement, all designed to help creators blur the line between performance and sound design.

GrainDust is available now at soundparticles.com with a 30-day free trial and an introductory price of $224 USD (regularly $299). Demo videos and full feature breakdowns are also available on the official product page.
