Sennheiser has announced the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5, its latest flagship true wireless earbuds. Redesigned inside and out, the new model brings several technologies from the full-size MOMENTUM 5 Wireless into a more portable format, including Dolby Atmos optimization with head tracking, upgraded active noise cancellation, and improved voice processing. The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 also introduces Bluetooth 6.0, longer battery life, and user-replaceable batteries for both the earbuds and charging case. The earbuds will begin shipping on September 3rd for $299.95.
Signature Sennheiser Sound With aptX Lossless
At the heart of the Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is the company’s 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transducer. Manufactured and tested at Sennheiser’s production facility in Tullamore, Ireland, the driver is designed to deliver detailed reproduction alongside the full-bodied, bass-focused tuning associated with the MOMENTUM series. Bluetooth 6.0 and Snapdragon Sound support enable high-resolution wireless playback up to 24-bit/96kHz through aptX Adaptive. Compatible source devices can also take advantage of aptX Lossless for bit-perfect wireless transmission. A dedicated low-latency mode is available for gaming and other applications where tighter synchronization between sound and video is required.
Upgraded ANC and Voice-Call Performance
Sennheiser has revised the adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation system for the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5. Redesigned ear tips work with a dedicated four-microphone array to improve passive isolation and noise-canceling performance. The earbuds also feature an automatic anti-wind mode and a micro-perforated acoustic microphone plate intended to reduce turbulence. According to Sennheiser, these refinements help maintain more consistent ANC and voice quality outdoors. For calls, the system uses six microphones and two bone-conduction voice accelerometers. An AI-based speech-extraction algorithm processes information from all eight sensors to separate the user’s voice from surrounding noise. Sennheiser has also updated its real-time transparency mode for a more natural presentation of ambient sound.
Dolby Atmos With Interactive Head Tracking
The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is optimized for Dolby Atmos and supports interactive head tracking. The technology adjusts the spatial presentation as the listener moves, helping compatible movies, music, and other content produce a more stable, theater-like sound field. This spatial audio capability is inherited from the over-ear MOMENTUM 5 Wireless and is one of the most significant entertainment-focused additions to Sennheiser’s new earbuds.
User-Replaceable Earbud and Case Batteries
One of the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5’s most distinctive features is its user-replaceable battery system. Owners can replace the power cells inside both earbuds and the wireless charging case using a compact screwdriver. Rechargeable batteries gradually lose capacity through repeated use, often shortening the practical lifespan of true wireless earbuds. Sennheiser’s replaceable system is designed to let owners restore battery performance without replacing the complete product. The approach follows the longevity-focused design of the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless and gives the new earbuds a notable sustainability advantage over many competing flagship models.
Up to 40 Hours of Total Battery Life
The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 offers up to 12 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. The charging case holds more than two additional charges, increasing total listening time to as much as 40 hours. An eight-minute quick charge provides up to one hour of playback. The redesigned case also supports Qi wireless charging. Actual battery performance may vary depending on listening volume, codec selection, ANC use, and other enabled features.
Redesigned for Improved Comfort
Sennheiser developed a new aerodynamic earbud shape using information gathered from thousands of ear models. The housing eliminates the fins used by some previous designs, creating what the company describes as a lighter, “barely there” fit. According to Sennheiser, 73% of testers rated the new finless design as more comfortable than the previous generation. The earbuds carry an IP54 rating for protection against dust, sweat, and splashes, making them suitable for commuting, exercise, and everyday use. The charging case has also been redesigned with narrower proportions and a low-friction exterior intended to make it easier to carry in tight pockets.
Bluetooth 6.0 and Smart Control Plus Features
Bluetooth 6.0 provides the foundation for the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5’s updated connectivity platform. The earbuds support Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair, and multipoint switching for use across multiple devices. A selectable robust connection mode is designed to improve signal stability in areas with heavy wireless traffic. This could prove useful in airports, offices, public transportation, and other crowded environments. The new Smart Control Plus app expands sound customization with an eight-band equalizer. It also provides guided Sound Personalization, adjustable controls, and access to future performance updates.
