Audio Technica ATH-AR3BT Review – Packaging

This wireless on-ear headphone ships in a white box with a photo of the wireless Sonic Fuel headphones on the cover. Inside the box, you’ll find the headphones sitting inside a cardboard frame. It’s nothing overly fancy, but it keeps the headphones in good condition. Inside the box you’ll also find your microUSB charging cable and a detachable aux cable with a remote.

Audio Technica ATH-AR3BT Review – Build & Design

The AR3BT feels pretty durable for being a slim on-ear headphone. The headband is lightly padded on the underbelly of the top region of the headband while the sides of the extenders are a durable hard grade material – possibly part plastic. However, the headband and extenders allow for some flexibility without feeling like they are on the verge of snapping. The ear cushions are padded with a cushion-y leather. It isn’t the most premium, but it gets the job done. The ear cups are also able to swivel up and down as well as left to right. To boot, the entire frame is collapsible for extremely easy transport.

Audio Technica ATH-AR3BT Review – Features

Sonic Fuel AR3BT features a single sliding button for controlling your volume, answering calls, and switching back and forth between tracks. It’s pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. If you’ve had any experience with the SR5BT then you already know how to use these controls.

When it comes to connectivity, the headphones are able to use either NFC (near field communication) or Bluetooth. It holds a DC3.7 V Lithium polymer rechargeable battery providing up to 30 hours of use taking about 5 hours to fully charge. The headphone supports Qualcomm aptX and AAC codecs to ensure clear transmission. There aren’t too many additional features on this headphone and for good reason – it keeps the price down. Instead of all the extra fandangles, you get sound. Now, on to my next point.

Audio Technica ATH-AR3BT Review – Sound

These headphones provide really good audio when you consider the very low price point of  $119 and while operating over Bluetooth. The low end features an Audio Technica staple of smooth controlled bass. As for the mids, they are definitely present, but feel as if they get caught in the undertow of the bass line and winds up slightly covered. Not all of the mids are covered, but the low-mids could have a bit more clarity and separation. The upper mids and highs are actually quite detailed. The highs sparkle over the rest of the audio showcasing a nice degree of separation. Very nice!
