From mixing to presentation, Audio Technica M70x transforms Times Square into a real-life concrete jungle.
Audio Technica M70x Transforms Times Square
Assisted by the warm and clear sound of the Audio Technica M70x, a German art collective decided to create a multi-sensory art installation in the heart of New York City.
Truly personifying the expression “concrete jungle,” Soundwalk Collective’s immersive pop-up guides participants through the bustling hub of Times Square with sounds and imagery authentically captured in the Amazon. Participants download the JUNGLE-IZED app and borrow a pair of Audio Technica M70x headphones to get started. The experience aims to encourage a conversation about nature, as well as heighten awareness on the environmental impact of climate change.
Looking to deliver an authentic auditory journey through the Amazon, composer Francisco López chose Audio Technica’s M70x headphones to reproduce the sounds of the jungle in Times Square.
“I chose Audio-Technica’s ATH-M70x headphones not only because of their audio quality, but because I knew eventually that visitors to the exhibit would be listening to our tracks through these same headphones,” stated Francisco López. “We wanted to offer visitors the ability to hear the tracks the same way I did when mixing them.”
Ensuring the sounds of the city did not drown out the sounds of nature, the collective leaned on the M70x’s leather ear pads to provide optimal passive sound isolation, which proved to do the trick. As my co-worker and I weaved our way through the familiar sights in Times Square we realized the chants, calls, and hums of the Amazon were far more present than the din of the city. The tour is definitely a must-hear attraction for all visitors to Midtown Manhattan.
Midnight Moment
This audio experience is also accompanied by a video, directed by Stephan Crasneanscki of Soundwalk Collective. It airs every night in April from 11:57pm to midnight on the electronic billboards of Times Square. The JUNGLE-IZED film invites spectators to take part in a simple collective action in celebration of Earth Month. The film hopes to reveal the hidden energy that exists in one of the most biodiverse environments in the world – bringing the animals, the air, the trees, and the tribal inhabitants of the Amazon to New York City.
JUNGLE-IZED runs through the end of April from noon to midnight. The official JUNGLE-IZED kiosk is located on 7th Avenue between 43rd and 44th Streets.
