Beyerdynamic CUSTOM STREET Review
I recently put the Beyerdynamic CUSTOM STUDIO over-ear / closed-back headphones to the test and was pleased with the overall design and sound. The CUSTOM STREET model however, claim to be an every-day, more portable version in the CUSTOM series that’s geared for music listeners and gamers on the go. So I decided to give the CUSTOM STREET headphones a look to see how they compared to the sound of the CUSTOM STUDIO.
DESIGN
The design of the Beyerdynamic CUSTOM STREET headphones is very similar to the CUSTOM STUDIO with only a couple of significant differences. Starting with the similarities, both of the CUSTOM series headphones are closed-back with an identical physical aesthetic including options for custom rings, headpads and design covers. Both headphones also have the Custom Sound Slider, comfortable earpads and headpads. The CUSTOM STREET headphones however have a smaller over-ear design, and have the ability to fold up for transport in a portable carrying case. This smaller design makes it much easier for long-term and every-day types of travel. The CUSTOM STUDIO includes a remote control and mic for your wireless device however it’s only good for play and stop functions. Volume control is not included in the design. You will find, however that you can share your music with a friend via the extra headphone socket located at the base of either earcup. The Beyerdynamic CUSTOM STREET headphones also come in black or white.
SOUND
The sound of the Beyerdyamic CUSTOM STREET on-ear headphones is also quite comparable to the CUSTOM STUDIO. The Custom Sound Slider has 3 positions giving you the option to switch bass profiles between analytical, vibrant-bass and heavy-bass. Similar to the STUDIO, the bass profiles come in quite handy depending on the listeners’ needs making it a worthwhile option to have. The mid-range and high frequencies of the Beyerdyamic CUSTOM STREET are clear and crisp giving the listener a realistic experience whether listening to music or gaming.
PRICE
Currently the price for the Beyerdynamic CUSTOM STREET on-ear / closed-back headphones is right around $100. Not a bad price for what you get.
COMPARISON
Giving the CUSTOM STREET headphones a straight comparison with the CUSTOM STUDIO is pretty simple. The overall design and sound of both headphones are very similar. With that being said, the CUSTOM STREET are certainly better designed for portability but the smaller over-ear design compromises the sound quality that you experience with the CUSTOM STUDIO. I always seem to prefer over-the-ear to the on-ear design with most headphone brands because of the way they sit on the ear. The custom add-on options are basically the same, including a range of colors for covers, rings and headbands. To sum it up I’d say the CUSTOM STREET headphones from Beyerdynamic are exactly what they claim to be… a smaller and more portable headphone for great quality every-day music listening, gaming or even podcasting. But for the money and difference in comfort and sound I’d be going for the CUSTOM STUDIO headphones.
