The non-push to talk system is formally called Bonx Grip and it is about the size of any other Bluetooth earpiece. Using Bluetooth and Bonx’s free cellphone application, users are able to activate seamless communication with others who are paired to the app. Designed for outdoor athletes, a group-talk setting allows users to pair with up to 10 people. The actual walkie talkie system is also voice activated. There is no need to press a button while kayaking or scaling a rock wall. Belay on!

Grip is equipped with two buttons for easy mute and volume controls, if need be. The earphones are open back to also keep wearers in-tune with their surroundings. The Bonx reminds me of a binder clip for your ears. The clasp portion would be the body of the walkie talkie and the arm portions are what clips to the ear. The tiny headphone-like earpiece is is fashioned with sturdy materials that are both water and shock resistant. The simple grip design should allow it to securely fasten to the ear and remain secure while undergoing intense activities.

The Bonx team advise their little piece of tech has no limits. As long as both walkie-talkie parties have cellphone service in their area Grip is ready to go. This is because the system uses a cellphone’s data connection to transmit voice data. This method actually saves battery life and reduces data usage. Grip is built with voice activity detection that constantly learns and adapts to the surrounding environment. So much so, Grip can distinguish between nearby voices and those coming from a distance.

Bonx Grip is available in 4 different colorways (black, white, green, and pink) and is being sold via Indiegogo. A Super Early Bird special offers a deal of 2 Grips for $150 – $75 each. Pretty sweet deal seeing as the suggested retail price is $139.
