Fender Studio has introduced Fender Motion, a new line of professional creative controllers designed for songwriting, beatmaking, sequencing, mixing, and live performance. Available with either 16 or 32 pads, the controllers combine expressive hardware with dedicated Fender Studio Pro control, allowing musicians to navigate projects and develop ideas without constantly reaching for a mouse. Fender Motion also provides tools for improvisation and music creation, including playable chord progressions, assignable scales and context-aware pads. A perpetual Fender Studio Pro license is included with both models.
Built for Songwriting, Beatmaking and Performance
The Fender Motion controllers are intended to support multiple stages of the production process instead of focusing exclusively on finger drumming or sample triggering. Their pads can adapt to drums, chords, scales and melodies, making the controllers suitable for building beats, composing harmonic parts and performing virtual instruments. Chord Mode gives musicians access to more than 30 human-made progressions with custom voicings. Assignable scales also make it easier to experiment with melodic ideas without memorizing traditional patterns or music-theory shapes.
FATAR Pads Make Their Controller Debut
Both Fender Motion models feature professional-grade pads developed in partnership with FATAR, the company best known for its keyboard actions. Motion represents FATAR’s first pad design, bringing the manufacturer’s approach to responsiveness and playability to drums, samples, chords and melodic performances.
These context-aware pads change functions based on the current workflow. Users can move between finger drumming, chord triggering and melodic playing while maintaining an expressive, instrument-like response. The Motion 16 provides a more compact 16-pad configuration, while the Motion 32 expands the playing surface to 32 pads for musicians who want additional access to samples, notes or session commands.
Deep Fender Studio Pro Integration
Fender Motion pairs natively with Fender Studio Pro, providing dedicated control over recording, editing, playback and mixing. Users can navigate tracks and the project timeline, adjust plug-in parameters, control transport functions and access virtual instruments directly from the hardware.
An Instant Add button allows creators to insert instruments, audio tracks or effects without disrupting the session. Motion can also be used for real-time editing and automation-style performance, letting producers adjust plug-in parameters through physical controls instead of drawing every change manually. Both the Motion 16 and Motion 32 include a perpetual Fender Studio Pro license, creating a complete hardware-and-software production package.
RGB Encoders and Expressive Touch Strips
RGB touch-sensitive encoders provide visual feedback while controlling virtual instruments, plug-ins and mixer settings. The controllers also include touch strips for shaping sounds and manipulating performance parameters in real time. Together, these controls are designed to keep musicians engaged with the performance rather than the computer screen. Producers can record, edit and mix using the same tactile interface they use to play drums, trigger samples or develop chord progressions. Producer Yaahn Hunter Jr. described Motion as a direct connection between his ideas and Fender Studio Pro. He highlighted the speed of Chord Mode and the ability to adjust plug-in parameters live without manually drawing automation.
Compatibility With Other DAWs and External MIDI Gear
Although Motion offers its most integrated experience with Fender Studio Pro, Fender says the controllers are also compatible with other major digital audio workstations. This gives producers the option to incorporate Motion into an existing software setup. MIDI input and output connections support external synthesizers, drum machines and hybrid production rigs. These connections also open the door to computer-free configurations for musicians who want to use Motion as part of a hardware-focused setup.
