Grovemade Walnut Speakers, You’ll Go Nuts For Them

Grovemade Walnut Speakers

Have you ever wanted to create that perfect minimalist-style boho chic room but your sound system just didn’t fit the aesthetic? Maybe this scenario is just me, but regardless the Grovemade Walnut speakers are a beautiful gift from the gods.

Grovemade Walnut Speakers, You’ll Go Nuts For Them

These carefully crafted speakers are a collaboration between Grovemade, known for their wooden-based appliances and accessories, and Joey Roth, acclaimed industrial designer with a penchant for rounded forms. The outside of the Walnut speaker looks like a gigantic nut shell. On the other hand, the inside looks like more like a seashell with conch-like grooves.

Grovemade explains these custom back-loaded horn designs replace digital signal processing in the speakers. The inside lacks any parallel walls or flat surfaces, like that of a concert hall, so the internal geometry of the speakers actually eliminate standing waves that cause distortion. Pretty nice! This unique shape was achieved in part with Grovemade’s CNC machining tools in their Portland-based wood shop.

“Usually when I do my audio simulations I have to compromise to make it buildable. But working with the Grovemade guys, the simulations became the final geometry,” explains Joey Roth.

Each speaker possess a full-range Fountek FR58EX driver to reproduce the entire range of frequency information over 25 watts of power. Each speaker stands at 1.75 inches high and stands on a natural cork base.

The Grovemade Walnut speaker is also available in Maple. Both pairs are made from natural materials and should work with computers, phones, turntables, and other audio devices. They’ll just run you a smooth $499.
