Look & Feel

There are two variations of the JVC’s design, the sunburst version and the glossy black version. The version I tested for this review is the black version, but I wish it were the sunburst version because it just looks more up my alley aesthetically. The black version still looks very cool, and the copper colored stem still makes the earphones seem lavish in their own way. No matter which version you choose, the Wood Masterpiece features a refined design and is among the best-looking stemmed true wireless earbuds. The housing is big enough to feel secure in your ears, and small enough not to be obstructive or invasive.

Design & Functionality

What makes the JVC Wood Masterpiece special is its single dynamic “WOOD Dome” driver. This is a transducer that uses a diaphragm made from real wood, inspired by the psychoacoustic design of real instruments. This wood-based material is engineered to enhance natural resonance, delivering a more organic timbre with improved tonal accuracy and decay characteristics. Combined with a neodymium magnet and JVC’s K2 processing technology, the driver is tuned to emphasize realism over artificial coloration, resulting in a sound signature that prioritizes texture, vocal authenticity, and spatial detail.

If the standard tuning isn’t enough for you, the JVC offers deep sound personalization controls. Users can access 10 sound modes (including five studio-tuned presets), adjust a highly precise 92-step volume control, and enable personalized sound calibration, which analyzes ear acoustics to tailor audio output. The app also manages firmware updates, battery status, codec display, and feature toggling such as ANC and spatial audio. Additional tools include multipoint management, latency settings, and a “Find My Earphones” function, making the app a central hub for both performance tuning and everyday usability.

I mentioned ANC as one of the app’s controls as almost an afterthought, but the implementation of noise-canceling here is still very good. They are particularly effective at minimizing low-frequency sounds like traffic or travel rumble, while maintaining a natural listening experience. In addition to ANC, JVC includes Ambient Sound Mode for situational awareness and a Noise Isolation Mode that enhances passive sealing. For calls, AI-powered noise reduction uses multiple microphones to isolate your voice and suppress background noise in real time, improving clarity during conversations.

Lastly, the JVC uses touch sensors like most other modern true wireless earphones. They’re all customizable within the JVC headphones app, and you can even toggle the wear sensor that plays and pauses audio when taking out and putting in the earbuds. Overall, the controls are very responsive and offer good feedback to certain actions. However, I could not get the wear sensor to work consistently with the pair of JVC’s that I tested for this review.

Bluetooth

The JVC WOOD Masterpiece earbuds are equipped with Bluetooth 6.0, offering a strong, stable wireless connection with improved efficiency and reduced latency compared to previous generations. They support a range of high-quality codecs, including SBC, AAC, and LDAC, allowing for hi-res wireless audio playback when paired with compatible devices. This makes them especially appealing for listeners using platforms like Android with LDAC support, where higher bitrates can deliver more detailed sound.

In terms of usability, the earbuds feature multipoint connectivity, enabling seamless switching between two devices—ideal for moving between a laptop and smartphone without manually reconnecting. There’s also a low-latency mode designed to improve audio-video synchronization for streaming and gaming. Combined with a reliable wireless range and quick pairing, the WOOD Masterpiece provides a modern, audiophile-grade Bluetooth experience that balances convenience with performance.

Battery Life

The JVC WOOD Masterpiece earbuds offer a strong, well-rounded battery performance that balances longevity with premium features like ANC and LDAC. With noise canceling turned off, the earbuds deliver up to 10.5 hours of continuous playback, extending to a total of 31.5 hours with the charging case included.

Soundstage

Some true wireless earphones have a good sense of space, but I haven’t heard anything like the soundstage of the JVC Wood Masterpiece before over Bluetooth. Without spatial audio, the JVC is naturally wide with accurate imaging. The left and right channels are very full and display good separation and layering within their headspace. It’s some of the best depth you can hear over true wireless, spreading far and keeping instruments and effects from overlapping in an immersive stereo field. Drum kits have a big spread, wrapping around you effectively to a point where floor toms can sometimes feel like they’re appearing behind you. It’s ironically more spatial than when you activate the spatial audio feature in the app. Using this congeals the soundstage, sacrificing all the amazing wingspan and separation you get with the default stereo soundstage.

Low End

In their standard, flat tuning, the Wood Masterpiece delivers a plump tone. It has a rounded thickness that may not be the most articulate with giving shape to bass notes, but will definitely enrich the sound signature with a smooth bloom. Using the bass, and professional 1 and 2 presets boost mid-bass frequencies, controlling how much the tone grows in size. I never felt like any of these presets made the bass more defined, but in terms of raw power and lift, pro 2 and standard bass presets were well adjusted and gratifying for those looking for bass-focused wireless earbuds.

Mids

The midrange is surprisingly natural for true wireless earbuds, with a flat, even response that provides clear instruments and vocals. You get a full-bodied tone that impresses with its clarity, projecting the midrange forward with authority. It’s quite a rich timbre, with a full surface area of tone that gives the sound signature a proper scale. Some of the presets recess the fundamental frequencies and emphasize the low-mids and upper-mids for a more V-shaped sound, which is fun to switch between depending on the track. The professional 3 and 4 presets make a big space for vocals, making them appear more carved out in the mix. I prefer the flat response, but the other EQ options provide interesting enough tweaks that I keep going back to.

Highs

The JVC has a fairly smooth treble that is clear and balanced. There’s nothing colorful about them, but they don’t appear to be muted or thin either. Presets allow for an un-brightened crisper tone that plays with the tail of the frequency resposne, but it’s more artificial than the default tuning. Cymbals are clear and splashy but aren’t very crisp. The roll-off is apparent but not detrimental to the enjoyment of the treble.

Summary

The JVC Wood Masterpiece earbuds carve out a distinct identity in the crowded true wireless space by focusing on tonal realism and spatial performance. Their wood-based driver isn’t just a marketing gimmick; it contributes to a uniquely organic sound signature that prioritizes natural timbre, expansive soundstage, and rich midrange presence. Combined with LDAC support, strong ANC performance, and a deeply customizable app experience, these earbuds offer a compelling package for listeners who value both sound quality and modern convenience.

While the bass can lean more toward warmth than precision, and certain features like the wear sensor may lack consistency, these are relatively minor drawbacks in the context of what the Wood Masterpiece does well. For anyone searching for premium true wireless earbuds with a more natural, speaker-like presentation, the JVC Wood Masterpiece stands out as one of the most interesting and rewarding options currently available.
