New Release: Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX Collab

Update 11/08/2016: The Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX is already sold out. But, the first we hear of more units or new headphones we will be sure to post!

The latest collaboration from Massdrop is with headphone giant Sennheiser. Together they rehash the 600 series to create a special pair of cans just for the Massdrop community. Meet Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX.

Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX Collab

“Consumers today seek the ability to engage with the developers of their favorite products,” said Steve El-Hage, CEO and co-founder of Massdrop. “However, traditional decoupling of commerce and community burdens fans with limitations that don’t fit their preferences for customization. Massdrop is committed to providing cutting edge products that give our communities the flexibility to both choose from any best-in-breed products available at the optimal price, and provide impactful feedback on product iterations—this collaboration is a shining example. We’re excited to have an esteemed company as Sennheiser participate in Massdrop’s ecosystem to give our audiophile community a better, more delightful audio experience.”

Sennheiser feels the same way with their Portfolio Manager Audiophile Axel Grell saying, “We are very happy to work with the Massdrop community. With the HD6XX, we have created a product which is the essence of the existing Sennheiser 600 line, combined with the ideas and needs of the Massdrop community. A perfect match!”

That being said, the HD6XX is a $200 version of the HD650. The latter was a costly open-back headphone retailing at $500. Sennheiser cut costs on the HD6XX by shortening the cable (now 6 feet) and swapping out the blue body for a dark gray color. As Head-Fi confirms, the HD6XX is basically the same headphone as the popular, premium HD 650. Not just by looks, but sound signature as well. The Sennheiser HD650 provides balanced sound with a slight boost in the mid range while allowing for present and fluid bass. I’m lead to believe the HD6XX should sound the same.

Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX is is already on sale via Massdrop.com. If you wish to snag a pair head over to their website ASAP, as only 5,000 units will be sold.

May the odds be ever in your favor!
