By now some of you have probably heard Sennheiser is discontinuing the highly-praised IE 80 earbud. As sad as that news is, there’s also some good. Welcome Sennheiser IE 80 S.
New Release Sennheiser IE 80 S with Fine Tuning at Your Fingertips
The new audiophile earbud made its debut at IFA 2017 in Berlin, Germany aiming to make good on its predecessor with a new and improved look. The ergonomic earbud housings appear to have the same shape, however the materials are said be more durable and better – tailored to provide a solid seal and fit (successfully attenuating sound up to 26 dB). Paired with a reinforced, proprietary 2-pin detachable cable as well as optional ear hooks the buds make themselves an attractive and portable audiophile-friendly earbud. AÂ red colored strain relief on the right earphone connector also makes for easy side recognition.
In terms of sound, the IE 80 was already an excellent model, but enhancements made to the IE 80 S are said to extract the most minute details. Clarity and sonic accuracy are ensured by “by a dynamic speaker system with powerful neodymium magnets.” And if that isn’t enough, the pickiest of audiophiles can further fine tune their music with a sound adjustment tool.
“The IE 80 S brings together professional sound quality and high-end aesthetics – the best of both worlds for those seeking to upgrade their portable audio experience,” said Marcel Salzmann, Product Manager Audiophile at Sennheiser.
Specs-wise, Sennheiser IE 80 S reaches a frequency response range of 10-20,000 Hertz at an impedance of 16 ohms. It’ll be made available later this month for $349.99.
P.S. Sennheiser IE 80 S was launched alongside a wireless, neckband-free take on the HD 1, called the Momentum HD 1 Free.
