Sennheiser has announced the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless, the latest generation of its popular over-ear Bluetooth headphone series. Building on the success of previous MOMENTUM models, the new release focuses on refined sound performance, stronger noise cancellation, smarter personalization features, and a more sustainable long-term design. With Hi-Res Audio certification, Snapdragon Sound, support for aptX Lossless, Dolby Atmos with head-tracking, and a user-replaceable battery, the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless aims to be Sennheiser’s most complete wireless headphone yet.
According to Product Manager Sreenath “Sri” Unnikrishnan, the goal behind MOMENTUM 5 Wireless was to improve the full user experience while preserving the qualities that made the previous model successful. That includes Sennheiser’s recognizable sound signature, long battery life, and practical everyday functionality.
Signature Sennheiser Sound With Hi-Res Bluetooth Support
At the center of the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is the same 42mm transducer used in its predecessor. Manufactured at Sennheiser’s facility in Tullamore, Ireland, the driver is inspired by the company’s HD 600-series headphones and tuned for a full-bodied sound with dynamic bass.
This generation expands the headphone’s wireless audio capabilities with Hi-Res Audio certification and Snapdragon Sound technology. MOMENTUM 5 Wireless supports Bluetooth audio codecs up to aptX Lossless, giving listeners a higher-quality wireless listening option when paired with compatible devices.
Sennheiser is also giving users more control over the sound through its Smart Control Plus companion app. The app includes a new 8-band EQ, custom presets, and an intelligent Sound Personalization engine, allowing listeners to fine-tune the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless to match their preferences.
Improved ANC and Call Quality
Noise cancellation is another major focus for the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless. Sennheiser says the new model is up to three times more effective at reducing ambient voice chatter compared to the previous generation. The headphone’s microphone system has also been upgraded, with four microphones on each side dedicated to ANC and transparency functions.
This expanded microphone array is designed to improve the headphone’s ability to reduce steady background noise, such as airplane cabin rumble, while also providing a more natural voice quality during calls. For users who rely on wireless headphones for commuting, travel, work, and everyday listening, these ANC improvements make the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless a more competitive flagship option.
Dolby Atmos With Head-Tracking
MOMENTUM 5 Wireless also introduces spatial audio with head-tracking. Early adopters will receive day-one firmware updates that unlock Dolby Atmos with head-tracking for supported Atmos-encoded content. This gives the headphone a more immersive listening mode for compatible music, movies, and other media.
Sennheiser says the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless platform is designed to improve over time through firmware updates to its DSP and wireless engines. The headphones ship with Bluetooth 5.4 and are also engineered to support Bluetooth 6.0 through a future firmware update.
User-Replaceable Battery and More Sustainable Design
One of the biggest practical upgrades to the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is its user-replaceable 700 mAh battery. The headphones offer up to 57 hours of playback with ANC enabled, while the replaceable battery design allows owners to refresh the power cell themselves using a small Phillips-head screwdriver.
This approach is meant to extend the lifespan of the headphones and reduce the need for replacement over time. Sennheiser Consumer Audio President Lilika Beck emphasized that the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless was designed to combine high-performance sound with environmental responsibility.
The sustainability focus also extends to the packaging and storage case. The new case is 20% smaller, while the packaging is more compact and plastic-free to reduce environmental impact during transit.
Included Accessories
MOMENTUM 5 Wireless ships with a USB Type-C charging cable and a 3.5mm analog audio cable. The analog cable gives listeners a wired connection option for laptops, in-flight entertainment systems, and other compatible sources.
