The HIFIMAN Edition S is the first ever on-ear design from the high performance headphone line that was started in 2005. At the amazingly affordable price of $249, the HIFIMAN Edition S features a removable logo cap on the ear cup which instantly transforms the street-friendly cans into an open or closed back headset.

HIFIMAN says they’ve recognized the sonic benefits of an open back design while closed back headphones are often a necessity when traveling or listening in close quarters, such as an airplane. For that reason, HIFIMAN gives you the best of both worlds with an on-ear headphone that can go from one mode to the other by simply adding (or removing) the logo cap on the ear cup.

Performance

The HIFIMAN Edition S runs on 50mm dynamic drivers designed for full range frequency response with exceptional detail and imaging. Keeping the commuter in mind, the impedance  is 18 ohms, so it is compatible with smart devices. Completing the connection, Edition S is fitted with a high performance Oxygen Free Copper cable that is 1.3 m long and terminated in a 3.5mm mini jack.  The cable is equipped with an in-line control and a microphone, to boot!

Comfort & Travel

The HIFIMAN Edition S includes a travel case with your purchase. The headphone frame is collapsible and weighs 8.74 ounces (248 grams). The headband is padded and the ear cups are made in the shape of the human ear for long-wearing comfort. A quarter inch phone jack adapter is also supplied, allowing the owner to plug the HIFIMAN Edition S into a DAC if need be.
