Turtle Beach HyperSound Glass Directional Speakers

Turtle Beach HyperSound

Directional sound is all the rage this season! Here comes Turtle Beach with glass directional speakers called HyperSound.

Turtle Beach HyperSound Glass Directional Speakers

These directional speakers from Turtle Beach allow you to listen to music or watch television out loud without disturbing others.

The technology employed by HyperSound speakers are via a highly directional, narrow beam of audio in the air. This beam acts like a flashlight through a room – only those within the path of the beam will hear the sound coming from the speakers while those just a few feet away can’t hear anything. The audio is said to be so immersive, it is like that of a 3-D experience. The glass version, called HyperSound Glass, works like touchscreen glass meaning the  glass pane is layered with a set of transparent films which allow it to generate a beam of ultrasound that delivers crisp, clear audio to the targeted listener.

The integration of glass into the directional speaker opens up the possibility for this type of audio system to be incorporated into other glass-screen devices said CEO Juergen Stark.

“The advancements the HyperSound team is making with directional audio are simply amazing – some of the biggest breakthroughs in audio technology to come along in decades,” Stark said of the new technology. “Being able to create highly directional audio using glass opens up many potential opportunities, including integrating into desktop monitors, commercial displays, desktop speakers, and automotive dashboard glass to provide warnings directed specifically at the driver…pretty much anywhere there’s glass there’s a potential for audio.”

At this time, I’m unsure of when HyperSound directional speakers will be available for sale. However, Turtle Beach will be exhibiting an early prototype of HyperSound Glass directional speakers at the 2016 Electronics Entertainment Expo June 14-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
