Alert! There’s been a recently reported case of a Snapchat Spectacles case melted by way of the charger. Anyone else having Galaxy Note 7 deja-vu?

So here’s how it all went down. According to TechCrunch, a user who shall remain nameless, reported plugging in his Spectacles case to charge using his typical 5W Apple wall charging brick per usual, but within a half hour came sniff “a burning smell.” He then looked at his case to find “the internals” melted.

This is what he told TC. “About a half hour later, I got a burning smell. Looked at the case, and it had melted the internals. The case was very hot when I went to touch it.”

What a nightmare?

“I unplugged it and let it cool off. Luckily, the Spectacles weren’t inside the case, so they didn’t go this [sic] same route as a Note 7,” added the source.

The source does explain, however, the Spectacles were not in the case. But it looks like Span Inc. is lookign to save their cred and offered to hand deliver a completely new pair of the social-media driven glasses to the customer and take the other one in for review, TC explains.

The specs, which were purchased in December during at the New York City pop-up were one of a very limited number released. It’ll be interesting to find out whether this “Snapchat Spectacles Case Melted” issue is a manufacturing error like that of the Galaxy 7, or just a one-time snafu. We will keep you posted.
