TicPods Free possess the same similar long stem and rounded earbud housing approach found on Apple AirPods. They also add a silicone ear tip to the end which makes me think these may be more stable and comfortable than AirPods. This model is also available in 3 colors: white, blue, and red.

Major distinctions between AirPods and TicPods Free seem to reside in their features. TicPods Free are specially built with gesture controls, a feature void in AirPods. Gesture controls for these truly wireless earbuds work by simply tapping or gliding your fingers along the stem. Sliding your fingers up and down the stem increases and decreases the volume. Double tapping answers an incoming call. A long press activates the voice assistant and also rejects calls. There’s also a really cool in-ear detection feature (Apple has this though) in which your music stops playing once the buds detect they’ve been removed from your ears and your music resumes when you put them back in. For fitness fiends, these buds are also sweat and water resistant with an IP rating of 5 which means it can withstand jetting water.

Additional features (which are shared with Apple Airpods) is the calling feature which transmits audio through both ear pieces during a call. Other TWS buds transmit audio through the right bud only to mimic what it’s like to take a normal phone call, but I remember thinking how odd it was the first time I made a call. I’d consider this a plus. They both alsi include passive noise cancellation, noise isolation, and in-ear detection. It ships along with a portable charging case.

Mobvoi TicPods Free support a 4 hour battery life and can gain an additional 14 hours with use of the portable charging case. There’s also a quick charge feature which is clutch when you are on the go, battery is low, and you need some tunes. Pop the buds in for 15 minutes and get a good 85 minutes of playtime. Perfect when you have a 40 minute train ride into the city.

TicPods Free may be new to you, but they’ve received not one but two tech awards including the well known Red Dot and iF Design Award Winner. Cool!
