Beyerdynamic AVENTHO 300 Review

Beyerdynamic AVENTHO 300 Review by MajorHiFi

Beyerdynamic has released Bluetooth headphones before, but nothing as ambitious as the AVENTHO 300. With this headphone, Beyerdynamic looks to join heavy hitters like Sony, Sennheiser, and Bowers & Wilkins with a competitive effort for the current market. Let’s see if they find any success.

Look & Feel

The AVENTHO 300 has a clean presentation that looks sturdy and professional. It has a similar look to a few other popular Bluetooth headphones in this price range, but the AVENTHO 300 uses more high-grade material that helps support its frame. I always welcome the use of aluminum over hard plastics, especially when the headphones can still swivel flat and fold inward. What makes the AVENTHO 300’s build most impressive is the specific shape of the ear cups. Wearing the headphones feels tight and secure, comfortably surrounding your ears with memory foam pads. It feels like a glove, and the cups’ recesses allow for roominess and security.

Design & Functionality

Beyerdynamic has a special in-house driver called STELLAR.45. Their current lineup of studio headphones all use it, and they’ve brought that driver technology to the AVENTHO 300. The STELLAR.45 driver is a dynamic unit that is slightly angled to enhance the soundstage and provide more immersive properties. Bluetooth headphones sometimes have a problem with supplying loudness and headroom, but that isn’t an issue with the AVENTHO 300. It sits at a comfortable gain, helped out by other features like EQ and noise-canceling. Speaking of noise-canceling, the AVENTHO 300 has an adjustable ANC. You can adjust the level from 1-5 in the app, but I kept it mostly at the highest level. Its strength is close to what I expect from a non-Sony or JBL brand that prioritizes sound quality over isolation. It will cancel out most obstructive sound but still doesn’t really compete with popular models. Something that the AVENTHO 300 excels in though is its playback functions through its touch gestures and wear sensors. There are a few wireless headphones out there that will automatically play and pause your music when you take the headphones on and off, and the AVENTHO 300 is one of the best implementations of it. The wear sensors are highly responsive, and work exactly how you need them to work. Then there are the touch gestures, which only function as to cycle through transparency and ANC. There’s more delay here, but still highly responsive.

Bluetooth

The AVENTHO 300 has almost all the modern staples of modern Bluetooth headphones. It features Bluetooth version 5.4, with support from high-quality CODECs from aptX Lossless to LE Audio. You can use the AVENTHO 300 as a multipoint connection, connecting the headphones to two devices simultaneously.

Battery Life

The AVENTHO 300 has a great battery life, allowing you to enjoy 50 hours of playtime. It may be only 10 hours less than the Sennheiser Momentum 4, but still more than worth it in its price range.

Soundstage

I’ve heard wireless headphones with good soundstages from known studio brands, but the AVENTHO 300 takes it up a notch. The way instruments and effects are separated and layered here is very close to how their closed-back studio headphones present their soundstage and imaging. While the soundstage ultimately conveys an interior headspace with clear barriers and limitations, the way the AVENTHO 300 is able to reproduce spatial accuracy is unlike any pair of wireless headphones in this price range. The AVENTHO 300 keeps everything out of the middle, resulting in more projected movement and exact placement within the sound field. Musical elements stack over, behind, and in front of each other with grace and heighten immersion significantly.

Low End

This bass is very impressive and only enhances itself with EQ. No matter how high you might boost the lows, the bass takes on the same character. It offers a growly timbre with impeccable scale and organization. The bass consistently resonates around your jaw and can extend deeper from there, effectively portraying balance within the sound signature. Its layers are engrossing and come off with clear detail and realism, making the best of both tonal accuracy and theatricality. You get tons of sub-bass rumble, while also showcasing a level of clarity that lets you assess individual bass notes without having to navigate through boominess. It’s a concise impact that’s dynamic and flavorful.

Mids

While the mids don’t exude the dynamism and driving capabilities of the bass, they feature plenty of presence to make a difference. The level of midrange clarity on the AVENTHO 300 makes it stand out from other heavy hitters in this price range, giving its frequencies more shape and transparency to instruments and vocals. Everything feels clean and evenly presented with a neutral sheen. Individual notes might lack weight or solidity, but space is always provided for the mids to make an impression. This is exemplified by the vocals, which appear pronounced in the mix, but within the balance with all the elements they are surrounded by.

Highs

The highs are the most naturally transparent part of the sound signature, displaying great clarity and detail throughout. Without delving into brightness or piercing territory, the AVENTHO 300 shows a natural presence. It shows off the natural height and extends the sound with a clear sizzle. There’s light sparkle in a way that doesn’t quite glisten but makes the tail end of notes appear full and enticing. It all feels effortlessly lush and balanced, which you don’t hear a lot from wireless headphones.

Summary

The AVENTHO 300 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones strike a remarkable balance between superior sound quality, comfort, and thoughtful design. With an impressive battery life of up to 50 hours, adjustable ANC, and responsive touch controls, these headphones cater to both music enthusiasts and everyday users. The expertly crafted sound profile—from the powerful low end to the intricately detailed highs—ensures a captivating auditory experience that stands out in a crowded market. If you’re in the market for headphones that seamlessly combine high-grade materials, advanced technology, and exceptional audio performance, the AVENTHO 300 is undoubtedly worth considering.
