A Closer Look at the New Audio Technica ATH-SR9 Headphone

Audio Technica made no mistake this year about their intentions to rock the headphone market as they announced several new impressive headphone models at CES. One of the most promising new models is the ATH-SR9 over-ear headphone. It’s due out in Spring of 2017 so let’s take a closer look at the specs and features of this cool looking headphone. Read my Full Review of the Audio Technica ATH-SR9 Over-Ear High-Resolution Audio Headphones.

Audio Technica ATH-SR9 Over-Ear High-Resolution Audio Headphones

The first notable feature of the ATH-SR9 is the look. It’s somewhat similar to the ATH-MSR7 but with a bit of a futuristic look of silver and black. The SR9 comes with 2 detachable cables: one with the inline control consumers have come to expect and one standard without controls. Both cables have Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial for premium sound and performance. The ATH-SR9 is also sporting 45mm True Motion Drivers with bobbin-wound OFC-7N voice coils. Audio Technica definitely set the bar higher with the SR9 in hopes to wow consumers once again with an amazing sounding headphone.

By using High-Resolution in the name of the ATH-SR9, Audio Technica is hinting at a new era in the quality of audio sources as well as the listening devices. With more serious listeners moving to high-quality lossless digital files, the overall result is going to be a big step up from the last couple of decades of listening to CD’s and compressed mp3’s which in truth are less than high-fidelity formats. With the ATH-SR9 the frequency range is 5Hz to 45kHz. Considerably more than what you can expect out of most headphone models. But this frequency range is in anticipation of higher quality digital recordings and playback files. And they’re probably right on point with that thought.

The Audio Technica ATH-SR9 Over-Ear High-Resolution Audio Headphones are indeed a very exciting and promising headphone for 2017 that I’m betting many audiophiles are just dying to get. With the release due in the next few months we’ll definitely see whether the SR9 lives up to the hype but I’m willing to bet it’s going to be another award winning and hot selling headphone.
