HiFiMAN SHANGRI-LA are said to be their best headphone yet. As HiFiMAN explains, SHANGRI-LA “will represent an idyllic, sonic paradise where music listening approaches perfection.” Although little is known about the intricate details of these cans but here is all we know. These cans are electrostatic and feature submicro-metre thickness diaphragms. HiFi Plus spoke with HiFiMAN founder Dr. Fang Bian and he advised SHANGRI-LA will exhibit the HiFiMAN proprietary method for evenly coating the diaphragm surface with conductive nanoparticles as well as a method that uses Bian’s precisely tensioned metal mesh stators that are said to offer great self-damping and facilitate sonic transparency.
If you are looking to get your hands on SHANGRI-LA expect this headphone and amplifier set to burn a very big hole in your pocket. Interested buyers can look towards a $50,000 price tag that will require a minimum $5000 deposit to snag a pair. P.S. The deposit is non-refundable so just know when you commit, you commit. HiFiMAN SHANGRI-LA are expected to ship in May/June 2017.
