iFi GO Link 2 Review: Should You Buy This Upgrade?

The iFi GO Link 2 enters an increasingly competitive market of ultra-portable DAC/amps, promising high-resolution playback, improved durability, and a more refined sonic profile over its predecessor. Designed for listeners who want to upgrade their everyday audio experience without committing to a full desktop setup, the GO Link 2 aims to strike a balance between convenience and audiophile-grade performance. But with enhanced power, an ESS DAC, and a more assertive sound signature, does this compact dongle truly deliver a meaningful upgrade for both IEMs and full-size headphones?

Build

The original GO Link already has a small and slender design, but the GO Link 2 finds a way to make the chassis even narrower. Even when shrunk, you can still tell how much more refined this build is compared to the other versions. Its blue finish is sleeker, and the new jutting 3.5mm headphone port seems more practical. Past versions of the GO Link had the issue of the outer shielding coming off, but that’s something I can’t see happening with the GO Link 2.

With its upgraded durability comes the same lightweight portability from past versions. It’s easy to plug it in and forget about which is how these simple dongles are supposed to function. As a beefed-up version of the original GO Link, the Go Link 2 feels like a proper upgrade; however, I could also see people waiting for a potential GO Link 2 Max if they needed a 4.4mm headphone out.

Sound Impressions

Having used the GO Link and GO Link Max for many of my reviews, I was suprised but how much the Go Link 2 colorized the sound of the IEMs and headphones I tested. Starting with the Kefine Arnar, the Go Link 2 does an excellent job reproducing clarity and texture, but it also expands the scale of the sound and pushes it forward very aggressively. It doesn’t just feel louder; the upper-midrange and treble are definitely emphasized. This can heighten the resolution of the frequencies, but it can also make them sound a bit more raw and harsh. This is not a defect of the Go Link 2, just an impressive demonstration of its sonic capabilities, showing you how effectively it reveals detail.

Next, I listened to the Meze 99 Classics V2 with the GO Link 2. The natural timbre of the Meze’s is more relaxed, and the GO Link 2 maintains that resposne. The DAC/Amp treated the V2 with a lot more smoothness, but never sacrificed articulation. The midrange still feels driven, but maintains the width and breathiness of the 99 Classics V2. The snap of notes is a bit more grounded, and vocals appear less distant. Everything is more evened out when listening through the GO Link 2. Things can still get exciting in the treble, but the V2 responded with more control.

The last headphone I tried out with the GO Link 2 was the Audio-Technica R50x. Immediately, the spatial imaging felt slightly fuller, and the low end made a stronger impression on me. Everything feels lifted, including the bass, which has a much broader tone with a sizable body. In terms of soundstage, the R50x has more noticeable height, with more sizzling highs that taper off more distinctly. Yes, there are those excited highs again, but their crisp tonality provides shape and precision to its sound signature, adhering to the R50x’s reference-class accuracy.

Summary

The iFi GO Link 2 successfully evolves the original formula into a more durable, better-performing portable DAC/amp that caters to modern listeners seeking high-resolution audio on the go. Its ESS DAC implementation delivers impressive clarity, dynamic range, and detail retrieval, while its compact, lightweight design keeps it effortlessly portable for everyday use.

Sonically, the GO Link 2 leans toward an energetic and revealing presentation, bringing forward upper-midrange and treble detail that can either enhance perceived resolution or expose harshness depending on your headphones or IEMs. This makes it a great pairing for warmer, more relaxed gear like the Meze 99 Classics V2, while still offering enough control and precision for more reference-oriented headphones. While the lack of a balanced 4.4mm output may leave some users wanting more, the GO Link 2 remains a strong contender in the entry-level portable DAC/amp space. For those seeking a simple plug-and-play upgrade with noticeable improvements in clarity, staging, and overall drive, it stands out as one of the more compelling options in its class.
