Let’s face it, we attend too many concerts and play our music too loud, often with no regard for our ears’ hair cells. And while hearing aids are a solution to the problem, they often come under public scrutiny and a hefty price tag. Olive Union Hearing Aid is looking to change that.
Olive Union Hearing Aid, Inexpensive & Discreet
The Korea-based tech company has created a bite-size hearing aid at an affordable price called Olive. Via their promo video, Olive Union says they’ve made the hearing aid thousands of dollar less by cutting down on excessive costs associated with materials and research. They did not use expensive machines for testing and diagnostics in order to keep margins as low as possible. That being said, Olive currently costs $500, but is sold via Indiegogo as low as $50. Olive Union hopes by reaching their crowdfunding goal of $20,000 their hearing aids can be sold on the market at $100. P.S. they have surpassed their campaign goal by 114 percent.
When it comes to aesthetics, Olive specifically modeled their hearing aids after truly wireless earbuds. This means the ear piece looks more like a headphone rather than a medical device. The exterior features a modern black onyx pattern on the outside of the housings. Olive ships with multiple silicone ear tips to ensure a secure fit.
Using Bluetooth, a smart sound algorithm, and a companion app users are able to administer their own hearing test and adjust the buds to transmit the audio through their customized hearing profile. Additional features include, a 32 band EQ as well as noise cancellation and wind reduction.
But we have to point out, like most truly wireless earbuds, the battery life is short lived. Olive Union manages a 4 hour life span (better than the typical 2.5). However, Olive ships with a portable charging case which can carry two additional charges.
