Riodo Wireless Speaker – Shower, Pool, and Beach Ready for $20

Riodo Wireless Speaker

Wireless speakers are fun, but if a spill or two renders them utterly useless then the party dies and you’re left so out of luck. However, Riodo wireless speaker is the latest ultra portable party speaker that is waterproof and only $20.

Riodo Wireless Speaker – Design/ Build

Riodo is built as an octagon with 4 sides longer than the other. This makes it very easy to perch on a variety of surfaces. The exterior looks and feels quite durable, though the entire unit is lighter than you’d expect – approximately 0.74 pounds. The dimensions are 3.35 in x 1.97 in x 3.35 in. Overall, the unit is very small and easy to throw in a purse or travel bag.

Riodo Wireless Speaker – Features

The top right corner of the Riodo speaker features a thick rubber loop. This allows users to attach the speaker to the included suction wall cup and hook. To my surprise, this held up very well in my shower this morning. The speaker also features a micro USB port for charging, an aux port, and controls on the top. The controls on the speaker allows users to turn the unit on or off, adjust the volume, pause or play their music, and take calls.

I also like that the speaker was ready to go straight out of the box – no charging required (initially). Pairing is pretty easy and similar to that of any modern Bluetooth-enabled device. Simply press and hold the power button until the voice prompt says “Enter Bluetooth,” choose Riodo BTS02 from your available devices. Once connected you’ll hear “Connection” and you are all good to go. While paired, a blue LED light flashes so you also visually know you’re connected. To turn the unit off, press and hold the power button until you hear “Power Off.” The blue LED will stop flashing at this time as well.

Probably the most important feature, is the water resistant capability of Riodo. It’s IPX7. That allows the speaker to be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes meaning this speaker is well-equipped to handle your next pool party or a shower. I took a shower with Riodo this morning (and left my phone in my room) and the speaker was able to perform and stay connected the whole time. I also placed it under the faucet for a little while and it’s still good to go.

Riodo Wireless Speaker – Sound

When it comes to sound, the speaker does a pretty good job for the $20 price point. The overall sound signature is neutral. There isn’t much bass to Riodo. It’s present, but a little on the faint side without much depth or clarity. The mids are largely present and sound full, though there could be more clarity there. You’ll find most of your details in the highs. Riodo is definitely more vocal and treble forward, which is fitting in a shower so you can sing along. The highs offer detail as guitar strings are plucked and high pitched vocalists take a breath. The speaker favors synth-based EDM, acoustics, general pop, and string-heavy arrangements. You can get a bit more oomph in the bass line if you turn the volume up, but it becomes distorted.

Riodo Wireless Speaker – Overall Performance

For $20 this wireless waterproof speaker is pretty good. It’s very small and lightweight making it super easy to take to work, and then to the party, and then to the after party. It can handle water exposure far better than other wireless speakers at this price point. It can handle steam as well as full immersion. Though, like other waterproof items this is for a short amount of time and you’ll want to dry it of afterwards. As for sound, the unit can get pretty loud. High pitched vocals, synthesizers, acoustics, and the like sound pretty good on this speaker though I do miss bass since I like a little low rumble in my music. To hear the bass you’ll need to push the output levels which ends up sounding over-modulated. Otherwise, I think Riodo is a worthy investment for $20. If you’re in need of a waterproof, wireless speaker and you’re strapped for cash or want to start with an affordable model before investing in a more expensive one, this may be right up your alley.
