Shanling has officially announced the EC Play, a new compact portable CD player designed to merge the nostalgic appeal of physical media with modern high-resolution audio features. With support for wireless playback, balanced headphone connectivity, and USB DAC functionality, the EC Play aims to give CD enthusiasts a modern alternative to streaming-focused portable audio devices.
According to Shanling, the EC Play is its most compact portable CD player yet, developed with portability, lifestyle usability, and contemporary aesthetics in mind. The launch also comes at a time when CD sales continue to rise among younger listeners seeking physical ownership and a more intentional listening experience.
Compact Design With Premium Construction
The EC Play measures 142 x 125.1 x 26 mm and weighs 418 grams, making it small enough for travel, office listening, or casual use around the home. The chassis features an aluminum construction with a clean, minimalist design available in three finishes:

The player also utilizes a custom CD drive system engineered specifically for reliable portable playback. The EC Play supports standard CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, along with seamless gapless playback for uninterrupted album listening.
CS43198 DAC and Balanced Amplification
For audio performance, the EC Play uses the Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC paired with dual SGM8262 headphone amplifiers. Shanling states that the tuning focuses on combining technical detail with a natural and engaging sound signature.
The amplifier section delivers up to 700 mW at 32 ohms through the 4.4mm balanced output, providing enough power for a wide range of headphones, including more demanding over-ear models.

Bluetooth 6.0 and USB DAC Functionality

In receiver mode, users can stream music from smartphones and tablets directly to the EC Play using:

When functioning as a transmitter, the player can send audio wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones or speakers using the SBC codec.
