Audeze Reveals MM-520 Headphones With SLAM Technology for Professional Mixing

Audeze has announced the release of the MM-520, the newest addition to its Manny Marroquin Signature Series of professional studio headphones. Designed as the next evolution of the acclaimed MM-500, the MM-520 introduces Audeze’s SLAM™ technology, a new acoustic system developed to improve bass accuracy, spatial imaging, and mix translation.

Created in collaboration with 18-time Grammy-winning mix engineer Manny Marroquin, the MM-520 is built for audio professionals, producers, engineers, and creators who need a reliable monitoring tool for critical listening. Audeze positions the headphone as a purpose-built studio reference model made to help mixes translate across a wide range of playback systems.

SLAM Technology Brings More Accurate Bass and Imaging

One of the major upgrades in the Audeze MM-520 is the addition of Symmetric Linear Acoustic Modulator, or SLAMâ„¢. This technology is designed to optimize air pressure inside the earcup, resulting in stronger low-frequency impact and improved soundstage transparency. For mixing and mastering engineers, bass accuracy is one of the most important aspects of any studio headphone. The MM-520 aims to provide a more visceral low-end response while still preserving the neutral midrange presentation that helped make the MM-500 a popular choice among professionals.

According to Audeze, SLAM technology allows the MM-520 to deliver greater low-end truth without compromising the clarity and precision associated with the brand’s planar magnetic designs.

Designed With Manny Marroquin for Professional Mix Translation

The MM-520 continues Audeze’s collaboration with Manny Marroquin, one of the most respected mix engineers in modern music. Marroquin’s involvement helps shape the headphone’s tuning for real-world studio use, with a focus on accuracy, emotional engagement, and reliable mix translation.

Rather than being designed only for analytical listening, the MM-520 is intended to serve as a professional monitoring tool that still keeps music engaging. This makes it suitable for long sessions where engineers need both technical precision and a natural sense of musicality.

Planar Magnetic Drivers for Low Distortion and Precision

At the heart of the Audeze MM-520 are 90mm planar magnetic drivers featuring Ultra-Thin Uniforce diaphragms and Fazor phase management. These technologies are designed to provide ultra-low distortion, detailed transient response, and precise imaging.

Audeze’s planar magnetic driver systems have long been known for their speed and clarity, making them especially useful for identifying subtle mix details. With the MM-520, those qualities are paired with new low-frequency performance enhancements to create a more complete studio reference headphone.

Easy to Drive in and Out of the Studio

Another practical advantage of the MM-520 is its high sensitivity and low impedance design. Audeze states that the headphone can be driven easily from studio consoles, audio interfaces, and even laptops, giving creators more flexibility whether they are working in a professional studio or a portable setup.

This makes the MM-520 a more accessible option for engineers and producers who need consistent monitoring performance without relying on a powerful dedicated amplifier.

Comfort Upgrades for Long Mixing Sessions

Audeze has also updated the MM-520 with upgraded memory foam earpads designed for long-term comfort. These pads use a magnetic attachment system, making them easy to replace when needed. For professional users, comfort is a key part of the monitoring experience. Marathon mixing and mastering sessions require headphones that can remain stable and comfortable over extended periods, and the MM-520 appears to address that need with its refined pad design.

Audeze MM-520 Price and Availability

The Audeze MM-520 is priced at $1,699. You can find it soon at Audio46.

With its combination of SLAM technology, 90mm planar magnetic drivers, Manny Marroquin tuning, and studio-focused comfort upgrades, the MM-520 looks to build on the MM-500’s foundation while offering more bass precision and spatial detail for professional audio work.
