Skullcandy Incipio acquisition is a $177 million dollar deal merging the popular headphones company with the California-based cellphone accessories line.

Skullcandy Incipio Acquisition Costs $177M

Due to slow stock growth Skullcandy, known for creating active and stylish youth-based headphones, is joining forces with Incipio, known for phone cases and other protective wear. The acquisition of the Utah-based company also entitles Incipio control over Astro Gear, Skullcandy’s gaming centric headphones company.

Incipio told The Verge “the Skullcandy brand will remain intact.” This is good news for those who love the wild patterns and lower price point for in-ear buds, wireless headphones, and more.

Speaking on the acquisition, CEO and Founder of Incipio, Andy Fathollahi, stated, “We have long admired Skullcandy’s culture of innovation and ability to create pioneering audio experiences with quality and style. Skullcandy and Astro amplify our dynamic mix of products and brands, while bolstering the technical and operational capabilities that serve as the foundation of our platform. The team at Skullcandy and its international presence will also allow us to accelerate the global impact of our multi-brand offense.”

Akin to Incipio, Skullcandy, Inc. President and CEO Hoby Darling said, “We are excited to be joining forces with Incipio Group as we believe it’s in the best interests of Skullcandy and our shareholders. The combination of our two companies allows us to better serve our consumers and retailers with focused, best-in-class products in multiple categories. We share a common culture, vision and commitment to driving innovation and this merger will allow our two teams to amplify their efforts going forward.”

I look forward to seeing the types of products that could arise from the Skullcandy Incipio acquisition. However, Skullcandy has a month within the “go-shop” period in which they can still accept proposals, as well as shop around, for a more competitive deal from other companies.
