With advancements in technology it seems headphone companies are figuring out how to create quality IEMS at a fraction of the cost. Brainwavz is the latest to do so releasing Brainwavz B400 IEM.

The bite-size buds are specially crafted to provide what Brainwavz call “some of the finest drivers around.” How so? The company doesn’t use regular manufacturing methods. Rather than churn out the drivers with a machine, Brainwavz uses unique 3D modelling and printing systems to design, test and hone the B400.
Using the 3D technology the company was able to achieve a shape that isn’t possible by normal manufacturing methods, such as outer shells printed using state-of-the-art liquid Resin 3D printers which enable a shape not possible by normal manufacturing methods.
As the Hong Kong based company explains, “3D modelling and printing means we can innovate faster and experiment more, enabling us to create a unique system that lets the balanced armatures perform above and beyond expectations.” I’m also led to believe using their own 3D modelling rather than outsourcing helps to keep the production costs down and subsequently a low MSRP for the consumer.
When it comes to features, these IEMs possess a MMCX connection which means the cable is detachable and interchangeable with any other MMCX-based cable, like Westone’s Bluetooth cord ($99 at Audio 46, Amazon)at makes any MMCX in-ear monitor wireless. These IEMs provide an audio cable and another cable with an in-line remote and mic.
As for sound, the B400’s four balanced armature drivers are sure to provide a sound that is balanced and full of clarity (typical for balanced armatures). Reviewers have noted that the sound stage is open and provides a nice amount of separation between the layers. Bass is present, but not robust while the mids and highs offer the same amount of clarity with more oomph behind it.

This is impressive seeing as other quad drivers, like Shure’s SE846, is a whopping $1000. Westone’s quad driver is $500 while Brainwavz is bringing it home at $200.
