The Audeze LCD-X is a truly wonderful sounding headphone but its original price was intimidating for many audiophiles, audio professionals, and musicians alike. Sound

Soundstage

The soundstage of the Audeze LCD-X is outrageous. There is so much space that the headphones almost take on a speaker-like quality. As a result, the headphones reproduce the music’s intended emotion, or at least as far as emotional objectivity is possible. The top to bottom imaging is vastly tall and it makes the intricacies of a mix stand out in a way unlike many others. I was immediately tempted to listen to some mixes I’ve done on my phone to see how they sound and I did! I recognized a few mistakes I’ll surely fix later, and that’s the kind of headphones these are: unabashed in their spaciousness and honesty to the mix.

Bass

The bass frequencies in the Audeze LCD-X are impressive. It isn’t over the top, but it is clear and punchy. The diaphragm reacts quickly in these headphones and the result is a clarity in the low end that is particularly good for engineers or producers. The subs are even clear and I could see these headphones being helpful for mixers.

Mid-Range

The mid-range frequencies have an interesting quality to them. They are both clear and warm. Consequently, the LCD-X lends itself to the audiophiles of the world. The dynamics in the mids let mix and performance minutiae come to life, especially when considering the accurate left to right imaging. I love that the headphones react well to such a wide range of instruments, especially in the mid-range. Electric guitars, synths, acoustic guitars, strings, brass instruments; they all sound real and do not distract the rest of the mix even though they are present.

Treble

Air extends out beyond the instruments with the highest frequencies. As a result, cymbals, strings, horns, and vocals breath and sit tall in the Audeze LCD-X. The clarity in these frequencies is refreshing and never harsh. Audeze headphones tend to work well with my ears and the LCD-X does not disappoint.

Overview

Now for just $1199,  I highly recommend anyone looking for cans in this range to check out the Audeze LCD-X Creator Package. It is a great headphone and is sure to blow you away. The soundstage is the most impressive quality, but the frequency response and dynamic response rivals the best out there.
